Notes:
This attractive antique Persian Karaja rug is a fine example of the bold geometric village weaving traditions of the Karaja district in Azerbaijan Province, Northwest Persia. The rug features a richly saturated brick-red field adorned with three prominent geometric medallions, including a striking ivory cruciform motif at each end and a central hexagonal medallion accented in navy blue, sky blue, ivory, and soft camel tones. The field is enlivened by an abundance of tribal floral motifs, rosettes, latch-hook ornaments, and stylized angular vines that create a lively and balanced composition. The deep indigo border is filled with geometric floral devices and symbolic tribal elements, providing dramatic contrast to the vibrant red field. The drawing is crisp and highly decorative, displaying the strong geometric character that makes Karaja rugs particularly desirable among collectors and interior designers. The wool appears lustrous and well-preserved, and the rug retains excellent color saturation throughout.
