This charming antique Persian Karaja rug is a classic example of the bold geometric village weavings produced in the Karaja district of Northwest Persia during the early 20th century. The rug displays the highly desirable tribal aesthetic for which Karaja rugs are renowned, featuring a vibrant brick-red field anchored by a series of geometric medallions rendered in ivory, navy blue, golden yellow, sky blue, and soft green. The angular stepped motifs, rosettes, latch-hook devices, and stylized tribal ornaments create a lively and visually striking composition. The central medallion is surrounded by numerous small geometric flowerheads and symbolic motifs that reflect the rich weaving traditions of the Azerbaijan region. A deep navy border filled with colorful eight-pointed stars and geometric floral forms frames the composition beautifully, providing strong contrast and enhancing the rug's decorative impact. The color palette remains bright and cheerful, with excellent saturation and the characteristic village charm sought by collectors and interior designers. The rug is woven with durable wool and possesses the sturdy construction typical of Karaja production. Its small size makes it particularly versatile as an entry rug, accent piece, or decorative wall hanging.
