Antique Persian Sarouk Runner

A handsome and finely woven antique Persian Sarouk runner dating to approximately 1930, preserved in excellent condition with a remarkably full, luxurious pile. The runner features a rich deep red field filled with an elaborate succession of floral sprays, flowering branches, palmettes, rosettes, and scrolling vines. Rather than relying on a simple repetitive runner pattern, the design changes continuously along the length, creating an unusually decorative and sophisticated composition. Touches of navy and royal blue, soft green, ivory, salmon, rose, and golden tones provide strong contrast against the saturated red ground. The floral drawing is detailed and well articulated, giving the rug the characteristic richness associated with good-quality Sarouk weaving of this period. A particularly attractive feature is the border: a dark ground carrying a continuous floral vine, framed by narrow ivory guard borders. This provides a strong visual frame for the intensely decorated central field. The photograph of the reverse shows a tight, regular weave and substantial construction, while the front displays excellent pile retention. For a runner approaching a century in age, its condition is a significant advantage.
