This charming antique Oushak rug displays the soft, decorative character that has made early Turkish Oushaks highly sought after by designers and collectors. The rug features a warm rose-pink field centered by a geometric lozenge medallion surrounded by stylized floral motifs and angular leaf forms. The spacious composition and gentle drawing are characteristic of village-woven Oushak rugs from Western Anatolia. The muted palette of faded rose, ivory, soft gray, sage green, pale gold, and dusty apricot has developed a wonderful patina through more than a century of age. The abrashed colors and softened outlines create the elegant, understated appearance that modern decorators prize. The border is beautifully proportioned, displaying stylized floral and vine motifs that frame the field harmoniously. The wool has aged gracefully, producing the velvety texture and subtle sheen associated with quality antique Turkish weaving.
