This beautiful antique Persian Mohajeran Sarouk, woven circa 1910, is an excellent example of the refined craftsmanship that made the Sarouk workshops among the most celebrated weaving centers in Persia during the early twentieth century. Renowned for their luxurious wool, meticulous weaving, and elegant floral compositions, Mohajeran Sarouks remain highly sought after by collectors and interior designers alike.
The rug features a rich midnight navy field adorned with an elegant Tree of Life-inspired arrangement of flowering urns, stylized palmettes, and delicate floral sprays. The beautifully balanced composition creates a graceful vertical movement, while the intricate blossoms and scrolling vines demonstrate the refined artistic drawing characteristic of the finest Mohajeran weavings.
A striking brick-red main border, decorated with bold floral and palmette motifs, frames the composition beautifully, providing a dramatic contrast to the deep navy field. The harmonious palette of saturated indigo, madder red, ivory, soft sky blue, celadon green, and warm camel tones is derived from high-quality natural dyes that have matured into a rich, luminous patina over more than a century.
The rug is woven with exceptionally soft, lustrous wool and displays a fine, tightly executed weave with crisp drawing throughout. The high-quality materials and careful craftsmanship have allowed the carpet to remain in excellent original condition, with a full, even pile and outstanding color preservation.
Mohajeran Sarouks from this period are especially prized for their decorative appeal, durability, and luxurious texture, making them equally desirable for collectors and sophisticated interiors.
