An exceptional antique Persian Manchester Wool Kashan Vase Rug, handwoven circa 1920, representing the finest artistic traditions of Kashan during the early twentieth century. This elegant rug is woven with the highly prized Manchester wool imported from England, renowned for its extraordinary softness, silky luster, and durability. Rugs of this caliber were produced for discerning patrons and remain among the most desirable examples of Persian craftsmanship.
These cartouches praising beauty, gardens, spring, or expressing spiritual devotion, which beautifully complements the floral vase design in the center.
The design is centered on a magnificent ornamental vase overflowing with flowering branches, symbolizing abundance, prosperity, and the beauty of the Persian garden. The luminous rose-pink field provides a striking backdrop for the delicately drawn floral bouquet, while graceful architectural columns and spandrels frame the composition, giving the rug a refined, classical appearance.
One of the rug's most distinctive features is its calligraphic main border, composed of alternating floral medallions and cartouches containing elegant Persian script. Borders of this type were often inspired by classical Persian poetry and literary works, adding an intellectual and artistic dimension beyond the decorative design. Such calligraphic borders are considerably less common than standard floral Kashans and enhance both the rarity and collectibility of the rug.
The rich palette of rose pink, sapphire blue, ivory, soft turquoise, olive green, and burgundy has mellowed beautifully with age, while the exceptionally fine weave displays remarkable clarity and precision. The luxurious Manchester wool pile retains its soft, velvety texture and beautiful sheen.
