Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug – Boteh Design, Late 19th Century Size: 51" x 80" A finely woven antique Caucasian rug from the Shirvan region of Azerbaijan, dating to the late 19th century. This piece features a beautifully balanced all-over field of small-scale boteh (paisley) motifs, arranged in a precise lattice against an ivory ground, creating a striking and elegant visual rhythm. The field is framed by multiple geometric borders, including a richly drawn main border with stylized tribal elements, all rendered in a classic Caucasian palette of deep indigo, madder red, soft ivory, and accents of sky blue and ochre. The rug is notable for its crisp drawing, fine knotting, and excellent clarity, reflecting the high level of craftsmanship typical of Shirvan village weavings. The back reveals a tight, even weave with symmetrical knots, further confirming its authentic Caucasian origin. Condition: Exceptional for its age, with full pile and beautifully preserved colors. Structure: Hand-knotted wool with a sturdy tribal weave.
